Toyota is adding a new model to its hybrid lineup – 2020 Corolla Hybrid. This is actually the first time the Corolla will ever be offered with a hybrid powertrain in the US.
Based on the all-new 2020 Corolla that debuted earlier this month, the Corolla Hybrid is powered by a hybrid powertrain that mates a 1.8L four-cylinder to two motor/ generators and a CVT transmission. The hybrid powertrain is essentially the same system you’ll find in the Prius. The powertrain generates a combined 121 horsepower and Toyota estimates that it will have at least a 50 mpg combined rating.
The Corolla Hybrid’s powertrain gets its power from a nickel-metal hydride battery pack that uses a new Hyper-Prime metal technology that allows for a smaller battery. The battery is positioned under the rear seat so there’s no compromise to the Corolla Hybrid’s cargo capacity.
The 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid will arrive in the spring.
