Mercedes-Benz is expanding the GLE lineup with the addition of the GLE 580 4MATIC, which is powered by a 48-volt mild-hybrid V8 powertrain.

The Mercedes-Benz GLE 580 4MATIC’s electrified powertrain generates 483 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, but an extra 184 lb-ft. of torque and 21 horsepower is available through EQ Boost over short periods. The system also uses an integrated starter generator that’s responsible for hybrid functions such as EQ Boost and energy recuperation, while the 48-volt electrical system powers components like the water pump and air-conditioning compressor.

The GLE 580 4MATIC also introduces the brand’s new E-Active Body Control suspension, which it says is the world’s first 48-volt active suspension system.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE 580 4MATIC will arrive by the end of the year. The pricing starts at $77,795, including the destination fees.
