Hyundai hasn’t announced the updates to the 2020 Hyundai Accent, but thanks to the EPA we can see that the small sedan is getting some upgrades. According to the EPA, the 2020 Accent is more fuel efficient than the 2019 model. How?
Well for starters we can see that the six-speed automatic transmission is being swapped out with a new CVT transmission. While the idea of another CVT sounds boring, it does provide some fuel economy gains. The highway MPG has gone up from 38 mpg to 41 mpg and in the city the 2020 Accent now gets 33 mpg vs 28 mpg. The combined mpg now sits at 36 mpg compared to 32 mpg.
While the new CVT may be responsible for most of the improvements, there might also be some changes to the Accent’s 1.6L engine, since the six-speed manual equipped Accent also is now more fuel efficient. If you choose the six-speed manual you’ll get a 33 mpg combined rating, which is up from 31.
