Ford recently expanded its high performance with the debut of the 2019 Ford Edge ST and now its being reported that another ST model is in the works. A new report claims that the next generation 2020 Ford Explorer will also get an ST version that will be powered by the same 3.0L twin-turbocharged V6 as the Lincoln Continental and MKZ.

If the Explorer ST does in fact get the same engine as the two Lincoln models, that means that it could arrive with around 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft. of torque. The next-generation Explorer is expected to offer up to four powertrain options, which also includes the turbocharged 2.3L four-cylinder and the 3.3L V6 from the F-150. A hybrid version is also expected. The same 10-speed automatic transmission offered in the F-150 and Mustang is also being added to the 2020 Ford Explorer.

Lastly its being reported that the next Explorer will switch to Ford’s rear-wheel drive CD6 platform.
