Currently the Cadillac Escalade is only offered with one engine – the 6.2L V8, but sources are reporting that the next-generation 2020 Escalade will have three engine options.

2018 Cadillac Escalade Review

Cadillac is already hard at work on the next-generation Escalade and based on how successful its rival the Lincoln Navigator has been, Cadillac is likely going to pull out all the stops to put its large SUV back on top. While sources claim that the 2020 Cadillac Escalade will feature three powertrain options, it’s not entirely clear what they will be.

Cadillac Society received the tip about the 2020 Escalade and even speculates about what could power it. The base engine will likely be a 6.2L V8, which will be upgraded over the current V8 with new technology, like Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM). The V8 was recently introduced in the new Chevy and GMC pickups with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft., which is the same as the current Escalade, but it’s more efficient.

The second engine option might be the new 4.2L Twin-Turbo DOHC V8 engine that was recently introduced in the 2019 CT6. The 4.2L V8 generates up to 550 horsepower and 627 lb-ft. in the CT6, which could be a nice upgrade for the Escalade. The third option could take the Escalade in a different direction with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Cadillac hasn’t released any info about the next-generation Escalade, but it’s expected to arrive in the third quarter of 2019.
