It’s no secret that sedan sales aren’t what they used to be, largely thanks to the arrival of the crossover. Well that doesn’t mean that they are going away. Toyota has unveiled the all-new 2019 Toyota Avalon, which gets an extra dose of style this time around.
The 2019 Avalon is now based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), which is also used for several models, like the Camry and Prius. For the fifth generation Avalon, Toyota decided to give the sedan a major makeover that it calls “Technical Beauty.” The 2019 Avalon tries to get a bit sportier with a new low-slung look that’s more muscular than before.
“Technical, which aligns with Authenticity, represents purpose and performance – tangible elements of the sedan’s style. Beauty, which aligns with Exhilaration, represents onlookers’ emotional reaction to Avalon’s taut lines and sleek silhouette.”
The 2019 Avalon’s exterior is now longer, lower and wider than before to give it a bolder look. At the front the 2019 Avalon’s new more aggressive face with slim LED headlights and a massive grille. Just like the new Camry, buyers can choose from several trim levels that alter the look of the exterior with the XSE and Touring trim levels getting the most aggressive design.
Inside there are more soft-touch materials, while the overall design theme of the interior is simplicity. Cognac colored leather seats are now available on the Limited trim level. The XSE and Touring can be had in either gray or black Perforated Ultrasuede and the XLE receives a trio of color offerings with gray, beige, or black Softex.
Under the hood, the 2019 Avalon will be powered by either a 3.5L V6 or a 2.5L four-cylinder hybrid. The V6 is mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission, while the hybrid system sends its power to the ground via a CVT. The Avalon Hybrid features two electric motors and its Nickel-Metal Hydride now sits under the rear seat.
The 2019 Toyota Avalon will arrive in late spring 2018.
