Earlier this year Subaru announced that by the end of the year it would release its first PHEV, the 2019 Crosstrek Hybrid. Subaru has yet to reveal the 2019 Crosstrek Hybrid, but thanks to a CARB certification filing we now know how far the plug-in hybrid will be able to drive in electric mode.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek

Inside EVs discovered the certification, which states that the 2019 Crosstrek Hybrid will have an all-electric range (AER) rating of 25.65 miles and an equivalent all-electric range rating of 26.273 miles (EAER) in the city. On the highway the Crosstrek PHEV is rated at AER 21.9 miles and an EAER of 27.381 miles Those specs aren’t as good as you’ll get with the Chevy Volt, but it does rival the Toyota Prius Prime, which isn’t too surprising since the Crosstrek PHEV’s powertrain does borrow some parts from the Prius.

The 2019 Crosstrek Hybrid will mate a four-cylinder boxer engine to the Toyota Hybrid System, symmetrical all-wheel drive and a new transmission.
