This morning Hyundai unveiled the all-new 2019 Veloster at the Detroit Auto Show. The second-generation Veloster returns with the naturally-aspirated Veloster and Veloster Turbo models, but there’s a surprise. Hyundai has also introduced the 2019 Hyundai Veloster N, a high-performance version of the Veloster that arrives with 275 horsepower.
The 2019 Veloster N is the first model from Hyundai’s new high-performance N lineup to be offered in the U.S. Under the hood, the Veloster N is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder that generates 275 horsepower and 260 lb-ft. of torque. That’s a nice improvement over the 2019 Veloster Turbo with its 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft. The 2.0L is mated to a six-speed manual transmission with downshift rev-matching capability that sends the power to the front wheels.
The powertrain also features a multi-mode, high-flow active sport exhaust system with a variable exhaust actuator. In N mode, this system will make you happier with an engine over-run exhaust crackle during upshifts and downshifts.
To prevent torque steer, the Veloster N gets an N Power Sense Axle design. Veloster N’s Power Sense axle geometry features a zero-scrub radius for more precise steering, quicker response, and a direct on-center feel, with increased steering linearity. The geometry is further optimized for linear torque build up and corner-exit precision. Roll angle is also decreased due to a shorter roll-moment arm, resulting in enhanced grip.
The Veloster N also gets unique suspension tuning that can be further enhanced with the track-focused N mode. To keep everything under control the Veloster N has optional oversized 13.6-inch performance rotors on the front axle and 12.4-inch rotors on the rear. Standard Veloster N brake rotors are 13.0 inches in the front and 11.8 inches in the rear.
To help it stand out from the other Veloster models, the Veloster N gets a unique front fascia with a sportier grille and large front air ducts. Its profile has been enhanced with N-design rocker panels and available 19-inch alloy wheels. The rear gets a larger N-design rear spoiler, an integrated diffuser, and dual exhaust.
Veloster N models are available in four exterior colors: Ultra Black, Chalk White, Racing Red, and Performance Blue.
The 2019 Hyundai Veloster N will arrive in the fourth quarter of 2018.
