Hyundai has unveiled the all-new fourth generation 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe, which will again be offered in two versions, but the biggest news is a new diesel. The 2019 Santa Fe and longer Santa Fe XL has been completed revamped inside and out with bolder styling, room for up to seven passengers and a choice of three engines.
To start, the five-passenger Santa Fe Sport is now simply called the Santa Fe, while the current long wheelbase three-row, seven-passenger model called Santa Fe has been renamed the Santa Fe XL. The diesel powered 2019 Santa Fe also gets a third-row seat, which Hyundai says is for “occasional use,” since obviously things are going to be tight back there without the extra length that the Santa Fe XL provides.
The 2019 Santa Fe looks bolder and more sculpted than before with the highlight being Hyundai’s signature Cascading Grille at the front. Inside the 2019 Santa Fe’s interior is more stylish and there’s more room compared to the outgoing model. Compared to the old Santa Fe Sport, the 2019 Santa Fe is now 2.8-inches longer at 187.8-inches with most of that extra length going between the wheels, since the wheelbase is now 2.6-inches longer.
Under the hood there are three engine options: a 185-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 232 horsepower or a 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine with around 200 horsepower. All engines are mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission and Hyundai’s HTRAC all-wheel drive system is optional.
The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe arrives this summer. If you need more space, Hyundai has confirmed that it’s working on a new eight-passenger SUV.
