The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently put the 2019 BMW 3 Series through its series of crash tests and at the end, the new 3 Series received its highest rating – Top Safety Pick Plus.

The 2019 3 Series is the fifth BMW to receive the Institute’s highest safety rating this year. To receive the Top Safety Pick Plus award, a vehicle must earn good ratings in these tests: driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests, as well as an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and a good headlight rating.

The 3 Series sedan earned good ratings in all of the crash tests and a superior rating for its standard and optional front crash prevention systems. The systems avoided collisions in 12 mph and 25 mph IIHS track tests.

The 2019 3 Series is available with three different headlight options, but only the optional curve-adaptive headlight LED headlights with automatic high beams, that are part of the Executive package, received the good headlight rating. The curve-adaptive lights that are part of the Convenience package received a marginal rating and the base LED headlights were rated as poor.
