The all-new eighth generation 2019 Audi A6 has been unveiled and at first glance, not that much looks like it’s changed, but don’t let that evolutionary exterior fool you, there’s a lot of new stuff packed into the latest A6.
Starting with the exterior, the 2019 A6 borrows styling cues from the A8 and A7 models. The exterior features a more sculpted look with sharp edges and more striking lines, than before to give a slightly sportier look.
The 2019 A6 is 0.3 inches longer than its predecessor and its width has increased by 0.5 inches.
While its exterior may leave you wanting more, the 2019 A6 gets a completely revamped interior that’s sure to please the techies. The center piece of the interior is the all-digital MMI touch response system that allows central vehicle functions to be placed in the required position in the MMI screen using drag-and-drop, like apps on a smartphone. Shortcuts and favorites buttons form the ideal basis for individual preferences and superb ease-of-use. The system can store the settings for up to seven passengers.
The system includes a 10.1-inch screen that sits in the center of the dash, while a second 8.6-inch display is mounted below it to adjust the climate control settings. A head-up display projects important information onto the windshield and the Audi virtual cockpit with its 12.3-inch display is mounted in front of the driver.
To make it even easier to drive, the 2019 A6 gets a long list of driver assistance systems, including parking pilot and the garage pilot. They autonomously maneuver the A6 into and out of a parking space or garage. The driver can also get out of the car before activating the parking systems using the myAudi app on their smartphone.
The parking pilot and the garage pilot form part of the Park assist package, one of three packages. The City assist package includes features such as the new crossing assist. The Tour assist package comes with the adaptive cruise assist, which supplements the adaptive cruise control with a light steering assist feature to keep the vehicle in lane. The new assist systems use a whopping five radar sensors, five cameras, twelve ultrasonic sensors and a laser scanner.
Under hood all A6 models will now come with Audi’s new mild-hybrid technology. The 48-volt mild-hybrid system features a belt alternator starter and a lithium-ion battery. The Audi A6 can coast between 34.2 and 99.4 mph. At launch, the European spec 2019 A6 will be available with a choice of two engines – a diesel and a gasoline engine. The gas engine is the 3.0 TFSI V6 turbocharged engine that generates 340-hp and 369 lb-ft. of torque. It accelerates the A6 from 0 to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds. The 3.0 TDI generates 286-hp and 457 lb-ft of torque. The 3.0 TDI is paired with an eight-speed tiptronic, the 3.0 TFSI gets a seven-speed S tronic. The quattro all-wheel drive system is standard.
Audi also points out that the 2019 A6 has a much sportier driving experience thanks to a new suspension and all-wheel steering system.
The 2019 Audi A6 will start rolling off the production line in June. Pricing for the 2019 A6 starts at 58,050 euros in Germany.
