2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid

The Outlander PHEV is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder engine with two electric motors, one at the front axle and one at the rear. The powertrain generates a combined 195 horsepower. A 12 kWh lithium-ion battery pack powers the electric motors.

On the road, the Outlander PHEV has three modes that are automatically controlled by the vehicle. The EV Drive Mode uses only the electric motors for fully electric driving. The Parallel Hybrid Mode uses the gas engine to power the front wheels and the electric motors only power up when extra power is needed. The Series Hybrid Mode turns the gas engine to a generator to power the battery while the electric motors keep the Outlander moving down the road.

There are also three driving modes that the driver can select from. Eco Mode improves the vehicle’s efficiency, while Battery Safe Mode conserves the battery’s energy. Lastly the Battery Charge Mode uses the engine to recharge the battery pack.

Mitsubishi hasn’t released the EV driving range or fuel economy specs for the 2018 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid.
