Mercedes-Benz has released a few teasers of the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which is going to debut next week at the Shanghai Motor Show. While there probably won’t be any significant styling updates, the new S-Class is going to get updated powertrains and the new Intelligent Drive system, which is another step closer to a fully autonomous vehicle.

There will be several new engines for the new S-Class: in-line six cylinder diesel and gas engines as well as a new V-8 biturbo engine. There will also be a plug-in hybrid with an electric range around 31 miles.

The new Intelligent Drive features Distronic Active Proximity Control and Active Steer Assist that now provide even more comfortable support for the driver to keep a safe distance and steer. The speed is now adjusted automatically ahead of curves. Plus there’s an improved Active Lane Change Assist and additional functions of the Active Emergency Stop Assist.

A new Remote Park Assist feature makes it even easier to park the S-Class, since you can do it from outside your car with your smartphone.

“The development of the new S-Class was extremely extensive. With a whole series of new features and functions the S-Class remains the technological pioneer”, says Ola Källenius, responsible on the Board of Daimler AG for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development.

The updated 2018 S-Class will go on sale this summer in Europe before it arrives in the U.S. later this year.
