Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the all-new 2018 E-Class Coupe ahead of its public debut next month at the Detroit Auto Show. The new E-Class Coupe is bigger than its predecessor with an exterior that looks similar to the C- and S-Class Coupes. One of the most noteworthy styling features is the absence of a B-pillar and thanks to crystal optics, the taillamps also have a brilliant stardust appearance similar to the glow of a jet engine.
The 2018 E-Class Coupe is longer, wider and taller than the outgoing model with a length of 190 inches, a width of 73.2 inches and a height of 56.3 inches. The larger exterior means that the interior is now more spacious with rear seat passengers reaping the benefits with more rear legroom and shoulder room.
When the new E-Class Coupe arrives in the summer of 2017, the first models to arrive will be the E400 and E400 4MATIC. Both are powered by a 329 horsepower 3.0L V6 biturbo engine that is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The E400 can reach 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, while the E400 4MATIC is a tad slower at 5.5 seconds. Both models have an electronically-limited top speed of 130 mph.
Inside the 2018 E-Class Coupe features two 12.3-inch displays, wireless cell phone charging and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new semi-autonomous Drive Pilot system with Distance Pilot Distronic, it is not only able to keep the car at the correct distance behind vehicles in front on all types of road, but, for the first time, it can also automatically follow them at a speed of up to 130 mph.
“With its clear, aesthetic lines, our new E-Class Coupe appeals equally to the heart and mind. It combines contemporary luxury, agile sportiness and high-tech engineering into an automotive personality with spirit, offering exclusive, refined driving pleasure,” says Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development.
