Honda has announced that the 2017 Honda Clarity Electric is now available in California and Oregon. Just like the old Honda Fit EV, the 2017 Clarity Electric can only be leased, but the good news is that you can lease it for only $269 a month.

The 2017 Clarity Electric starts at $269 a month (plus tax) for 36 months with $1,730 down, plus the first month’s payment, taxes and registration fees. The lease lets you drive the Clarity Electric up to 20,000 miles a year. The Clarity Electric is also eligible for a $2,500 rebate in both states, which would essentially reimburse you for the drive off fees. At the end of the three year term, Honda will not allow you to buy the Clarity Electric.

The Clarity Electric isn’t going to be much of a rival to the Chevy Bolt or Tesla Model 3, since it only has a driving range of 89 miles. Using a 240-volt charger it only takes just over three hours to fully recharge the Clarity Electric, but DC fast charging can charge it up to 80 percent in a quick 30 minutes. The EPA has rated the Clarity Electric at 126/103/114 MPGe. Lastly the Clarity Electric’s electric motor generates a decent 161 horsepower and 221 lb-ft. of torque.

With the introduction of the Clarity Electric, this is now the second model in the new Clarity lineup. The volume seller, the Clarity Plug-in hybrid will complete the lineup later this year.
