Audi has announced that the 2016 Audi A3 TDI Sportback is going to arrive next summer. Audi says that the decision to bring the diesel-powered A3 Sportback to the U.S. followed an “outpouring of enthusiasts’ support.”
The A3 TDI Sportback is powered by a 150 horsepower 2.0L diesel engine with 236 lb-ft. of torquethat’s mated a six-speed S tronic transmission. Unfortunately a manual transmission and all-wheel-drive will not be offered. Audi hasn’t announced the fuel economy specs, but they should be higher than the last model’s 34 mpg rating. In the VW Jetta, the 2.0L engine is rated at 45 mpg on the highway with a manual transmission.

The A3 TDI Sportback isn’t the only A3 hatchback headed to the U.S., since the A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid is on its way too.
