2015 Volvo XC90 Powertrains Detailed, Top Version Packs 400-HP

Volvo continues to slowly release the details about the all-new 2015 Volvo XC90. After teasing the XC90’s interior, Volvo has now released some of the powertrain details, which includes a version with 400 horsepower.

Volvo continues to slowly release the details about the all-new 2015 Volvo XC90. After teasing the XC90’s interior, Volvo has now released some of the powertrain details, which includes a version with 400 horsepower.
The 2015 XC90 will be powered by Volvo’s new four-cylinder Drive-E engines, which will be offered in gas and diesel versions. The most powerful XC90 will be a new plug-in hybrid version with that will carry the Twin Engine “T8” badge. The hybrid powertrain mates a 2.0L supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 80 horsepower electric motor that drives the rear wheels. Volvo says that the system has a combined output of 400 horsepower and can drive up to 25 miles in full electric mode.

The base four-cylinder engine (T5) will generate 254 horsepower, while the top four-cylinder gas engine will be turbocharged and a supercharged to generate a total 320 horsepower. Two diesel engines will be offered with either 190-hp or 225-hp.

“There are no compromises when you drive an all-new XC90,” said Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research and Development of Volvo Car Group. “In the past you could either have power or low CO2 emissions. But with the all-new XC90 you can have both.”
