Mercedes has just announced that the much anticipated AMG GT will be powered by a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 that will produce 503 horsepower at 6,250 rpm and 479 lb-ft. of torque.
Mercedes has released a promo video for the new engine, where it’s revealed that the 4.0-liter V8 will feature a dry-sump lubrication system that eliminates the need for a conventional oil pan and lowers the car’s center of gravity. Lightweight forged pistons and a new Nanoslide coating on the cylinder walls helps reduce friction losses.

It’s expected that the 4.0L V8 will eventually replace the naturally-aspirated 6.2L V8 that is currently used in the other AMG-badged cars. The AMG GT is expected to debut at the Paris Motor Show later this year and should arrive in the U.S. early next year.
