Next year Ford is going to take a big gamble with the introduction of the next-generation 2015 F-150 pickup, which will be one of the most significant introductions we will see in the next twelve months. Why? The 2015 F-150 is going to get become largely an aluminum pickup as Ford tries to drop as much as 750 pounds from the F-150.
According to sources, Ford is going to debut the 2015 F-150 next month at the Detroit Auto Show, which is destined to be a big ordeal. Ford has reportedly asked Alcoa Inc., who makes aluminum blast shields for battlefield-bound vehicles to provide some of its aluminum for Ford’s display at the show. The display is part of Ford’s effort to demonstrate that an aluminum F-150 will be just as strong as today’s steel F-150 pickup.

The next-generation F-150 could revolutionize the pickup segment with a 30 mpg highway rating and a new 10-speed transmission that Ford is developing with General Motors.

Stay tuned for all the details from the show next month.
