Although the 2015 2-Series Active Tourer looks like it should share much in common with the new 2-Series Coupe, that’s not the case, since the 2-Series Active Tourer is based on a completely different front-wheel-drive platform. The 2-Series Active Tourer probably has more in common with the new Mini than the 2-Series Coupe, since the new Mini shares the 2-Series Active Tourer’s platform.

At only 170.9 inches long, the 2-Series Active Tourer is a compact hatchback, but thanks to its tall roof, it has ample room for five passengers. The front passenger seat can also fold down to provide room for longer items and the rear seat can slide to provide either more knee room or luggage space.

In Europe there will be three versions of the 2-Series Active Tourer, the 136-hp three-cylinder 218i, the 225i with its 231-hp 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder and the diesel 150-hp 218d. The lineup for the U.S. has not been announced.
