Last year Ford announced that the 2014 Ford Fiesta would be offered with its new 1.0L three-cylinder EcoBoost engine, which Ford expected would give the Fiesta the title of the most fuel efficient non-hybrid car available in the U.S. Well the EPA has just confirmed that the 2014 Fiesta with the 1.0L engine is rated at 45 mpg on the highway and 32 mpg in the city.

Those numbers easily beat other three-cylinder powered cars like the Mitsubishi Mirage and the Smart Fortwo. It also beats the Fiesta’s other competitors like the Nissan Versa Note and Honda Fit. The turbocharged 1.0L engine generates 123 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of torque. Buyers that want the 1.0L will need to be ready to pay a $995 premium and be ok with only a manual transmission. The 2014 Fiesta with the 1.0L EcoBoost starts at $17,240 for the sedan and $17,840 for the hatchback.
