The Chevy Impala’s platform dates back to 1988 and although the current Impala is getting a tad bit old, we still have a few more years until an all-new Impala is set to debut. In the meantime GM is going to update the 2012 Impala with GM’s 3.6L V6 that will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2012 Impala is slated to get a version of the 3.6L V6 that is known internally as the LFX, which is slated to be introduced in several 2012 GM vehicles, including the Chevy Camaro. It’s not known what other changes GM has planned for the 2012 Impala, although sources are stating that the only change is the engine.

An all-new Impala isn’t expected until sometime in 2013 as a 2014 model.
