BMW has announced a new recall for some 2012 BMW X5 models equipped with the diesel engine. The recall covers the 2012 X5 XDrive35D models that were built between March 31, 2011 and May 19, 2011.

The issue with the affected vehicles is a manufacturing error at the supplier, the welds in the belt tensioner could have incipient cracks. Overtime this could lead to a malfunction of the belt tensioner, resulting in a loss of power steering and possible accident.

Dealers will replace the belt tensioner free of charge.

Owners can contact BMW for the safety recall that begins this month.
