The 2009 Lincoln MKS was officially unveiled earlier this year and isn’t going on sale until later this month, but that hasn’t stopped Lincoln from selling 8,600 of the new sedans.

Mike Stanford has already sold over 60 units at his his Varsity Lincoln Mercury dealership in Novi. “It’s going to be an awesome product for us,” Stanford said. “We should be able to recapture some of the business we lost when the Continental went away.” (The Continental died in 2002)

“It’s really the first new Lincoln since the LS in 1998,” said analyst Erich Merkle of IRN Inc. in Grand Rapids. “When you look at the Lincolns they have today and what this car represents, there’s no question it’s a game-changer.”

The 2009 Lincoln MKS will be in dealerships later this month and will start at $37,985 and a fully loaded MKS will start at $48,120. The base engine is a 3.7L V6 with 270 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. The MKS is also expected to be one of Ford’s first models with the all-new 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 engine with an estimated 340 horsepower.
