It has been reported several times that the new BMW 335i actually produces more power than is stated on paper. BMW states that the 335i coupe and sedan have 300 horsepower at the flywheel, although according to several dyno tests the car actually puts out between 275-300 horsepower at the wheels. Using simple math it is estimated that the actual horsepower at the flywheel is 350-375 horsepower. Those are exciting numbers!
Well now it looks like the upcoming 2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe has achieved similar results.
The new Infiniti G37 VQ37 engine has 330 horsepower and lb-ft of torque on paper. The new engine is rated as only having 31 more horsepower than the old 3.5L engine, but it actually puts out 51 more horsepower at the dyno. Taking into account similar drivetrain losses as the BMW, the G37 actually has 365 horsepower at the flywheel. Those numbers are right in the middle of the 335i results.
I guess that is one more reason to wait for the new Infiniti before you sign the check for the BMW.
