HUMMER has finally addressed a major problem with the H3, a lack of power. Since its intro the SUV has only had a 5-cylinder engine that was borrowed from the GMC Canyon/ Chevy Colorado trucks.
They gave it a small boost recently, but it still wasn’t enough to move the SUV. This lack of an actual V-6 or V-8 engine has hurt sales.
For 2008 the H3 Alpha will offer a 5.3L V-8 with 295 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, vs. the 242 horsepower of the 5-cylinder. Maximum towing capacity has also moved up to 6,000 pounds. The SUV still has to make due with a 4-speed auto and no manual is being offered. It’s interesting that they dont have an auto with at least 5-speeds.
