Tesla's CEO Elon Musk recently joined a web chat on Jalopnik, where he discussed the future of Tesla and what the electric car company could release next. Mazda has unveiled the all-new 2014 Mazda6 midsize sedan at the Moscow Motor Show. The new Mazda6 is scheduled to start arriving in some markets this fall. At the show chief designer Akira Tamatani revealed that Mazda is currently deciding if a coupe version of the Mazda6 makes sense. Tamatani told Autocar, "There is no decision, but I would love to make one. The first job is to make the saloon and estate, but from this position a coupe is not so far away."

General Motors is going to reportedly pause production of the Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid for four weeks starting next month. According to the latest report, GM will close its Detroit-Hamtramck plant from Sept. 17 until Oct. 15. The plant currently employs around 1,500 workers and assembles the Chevy Volt and recently started producing a limited number of 2013 Chevy Malibus.

Chrysler has announced that the 2013 Ram 1500 pickup equipped with the 3.6L V6 gets best-in-class fuel economy of 18 MPG city and 25 MPG highway. The new 3.6L V6 that is mated to a standard eight-speed automatic, features 42 percent more horsepower, 13 percent more torque and at least 20 percent better fuel economy when compared to the previous 3.7-liter V-6 powertrain.

Chevy has announced the pricing for the 2013 Chevy Sonic RS that will arrive this fall with a starting price at $20,995. The Sonic RS is powered by an Ecotec 1.4L turbo engine rated at 138 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of torque, the engine specs are the same as the non-RS turbocharged Sonic, but the RS gets unique transmission gearing in the six-speed manual, or a 3.53 final drive ratio for automatic-equipped models.

It's being reported that Volvo is considering adding a smaller model to its lineup that would compete with the MINI Cooper and Audi A1. Volvo CEO Jacoby told Automotive News Europe in an interview that if the plan is given the green light, Volvo would need a partner to share the costs in addition to a smaller engine.

Cadillac previewed a new concept car this weekend at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Cadillac only showed two sketches of the new concept car that will debut sometime next year during the 2013 auto show season.

Friends of the late Carroll Shelby have built a unique 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra as a tribute to him. Cobra has been the consistent performance label as Shelby worked with Ford for most of the last 60 years, and Shelby was instrumental in the creation of Ford performance vehicles including Cobras, the GT40 and Mustangs since the mid-1960s.
Using the 662-horsepower 2013 Shelby GT500 as a foundation, "Friends of Carroll" created the one-of-a-kind 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra wide-body Mustang that now generates more than 850 horsepower with the help of a Ford Racing 4.0-liter Whipple supercharger. Just three months after BMW and Zagato unveiled the BMW Zagato Coupe, BMW and Zagato have created a second model, the BMW Zagato Roadster. The roadster was created in a very short six weeks and is debuting this weekend at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
BMW and Zagato decided to create a second model after the positive reaction they received for the coupe. "We set ourselves the challenge of preparing the car in time for the renowned Pebble Beach Concours" explains van Hooydonk. McLaren's Special Operations (MSO) division has unveiled the X-1 concept one-off supercar at The Quail, an exclusive event that is a highlight of the Pebble Beach event this weekend in Monterey, California.
Well we new this was coming, but Fiat has now made it official. What you have here is the 2013 Fiat 500 Turbo, which is more powerful than the standard 500, but doesn't pack quite as much power as the 500 Abarth.
The 2013 Fiat 500 Turbo is powered by a 1.4L turbocharged engine with 135 horsepower and 150 lb-ft. of torque. That means that the 500 Turbo has 34 more horsepower than the standard 500, but 25 less than the 500 Abarth. The 500 Turbo also gets a sport-tuned suspension, upgraded brakes and a unique exterior to set it apart.
General Motors CEO Dan Akerson has decided to auction off his 1958 Chevy Corvette with the proceeds from the sale going to Habitat for Humanity Detroit and its efforts to rebuild and revitalize the Morningside Commons neighborhood on the city's lower east side.
"A strong America is built on strong communities, and building those communities starts with one hammer, one nail and one person - and from there it's contagious," Akerson said. "My wife, Karin, and I want to see this effort to rebuild our headquarters city catch on, spread out and draw scores more volunteers and millions more in contributions."

Chrysler's SRT brand will mark the first official appearance at the the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, this weekend with the unveiling of the new, limited-edition 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition model. The 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition recalls memories of past Viper Coupe reveals in 1996 and 2006 with symbolic GTS Blue paint and dual Bright White stripes - exclusive to Launch Edition models.

Jaguar has announced that the 2013 XF and XJ models are now available with all-wheel-drive. The AWD models will be powered by a new 335-hp 3.0L V6 supercharged engine and eight-speed transmission.

This weekend is the kickoff of the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours in Monterey, California. BMW will be present at the event with the new 2013 BMW 7 Series, the new BMW 650i Gran Coupe and, in honor of 2012 being the 40th anniversary of BMW M, the BMW M5 and M6. One other model is also set to debut at the show, the Zagato Roadster Concept, which is teased in the image here.
McLaren GT, the new race car division of the McLaren Group, is going to unveil the track-focused 12C Can-Am Edition concept at the Pebble Beach Concours. The concept is a one-off design study that is painted in McLaren Orange and satin black.
The 12C Can-Am Edition concept borrows its carbon fiber chassis from the McLaren 12C road car. It's finished in a striking shade of McLaren Orange, in tribute to cars of Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme which were extremely successful throughout the 1960s and 1970s. The bold hue is in dramatic contrast to the roof, door and bumper sections, finished in satin black, while carbon fibre also features on the side radiator vanes, wing mirrors and engine cover. The McLaren badges on the front and rear are also finished in carbon fiber.
Hyundai has announced the changes to the 2013 Hyundai Genesis sedan. For the 2013 model year the Genesis options have been simplified with the deletion of the 4.6L V8 model and the 5.0L V8 only being offered on the 5.0 R-Spec model. The 3.8-liter V6 is available with the premium and technology packages.
For 2013, the Genesis 3.8 technology package and 5.0 R-Spec models offer a new optional eight-inch Driver Information System (DIS) display with navigation and an enhanced multi-media controller. This new display features a more intuitive user interface, integrating the same rotating dial with joystick-type function, enhanced voice-recognition commands and improved navigation screen layouts. The system uses a 64GB solid-state drive that allows music, image and video storage or Bluetooth music-streaming capability.
Following yesterday's photo leaks of the all-new 2013 Range Rover, we now have the first official photos and details of the new SUV. According to Land Rover, the 2013 Range Rover is lighter, stronger and more refined than before. The 2013 Range Rover is a whopping 700 pounds lighter than the outgoing model, which gives it better fuel economy specs.

Nissan has announced the introduction of the new Midnight Edition Package for the 2013 Nissan Juke. The Midnight Edition Package ($1,200) features unique 17-inch Black Wheels, a Sapphire Black rear roof spoiler, and Sapphire Black mirror caps.

The first photos of the all-new 2013 Range Rover have apparently leaked online ahead of the SUV's official debut. We've got two leaked photos of the new SUV, which borrows many styling cues from the smaller Range Rover Evoque.
We have to wait a bit longer for the official details, but the 2013 Range Rover is expected to be lighter than the current model and will be offered with V6 and V8 engines.
Jaguar has confirmed that its upcoming F-Type sports car will have its world debut at the Paris Motor Show, next month. Jaguar's all-new aluminium two-seater sports car, will debut in production form on 27th September.

Rhys Millen claimed another world record and overall victory at the 2012 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on Sunday. Millen set a blazing pace to the summit in his hillclimb-prepared Hyundai Genesis Coupe racecar, needing only 9:46.164 to make international motorsports' most challenging ascent over 14,000 feet.
"This year, it really came together for the RMR team at Pikes," said Millen. "With the insights gained from the last few years in our Genesis Coupe, the team was able to make some high-impact improvements, leveraging additional downforce and traction opportunities provided by the new all-tarmac surface. And behind the wheel, my experience at Pikes Peak over the years allowed me to shave a few tenths from virtually every corner. Breaking the 10-minute barrier is something I've always wanted to do, and it feels great to accomplish this goal in 2012."
Audi's new R8 e-tron electric car is set to debut this fall and Audi has just announced that it will use a new digital rear-view mirror, since it does not have a rear window. The digital rear-view mirror debuted on the Audi R18 Le Mans race car.
The digital rear-view mirror is a color monitor with a 7.7-inch screen diagonal mounted in place of a conventional rear-view mirror that displays the digital image data from a rear mounted camera. A control unit produces a consistent high-contrast, brilliant image. During the hours of darkness the intelligent control system prevents dazzle from the headlights of other vehicles. The driver can dim or deactivate the display at any time.
The 2012 Paris Motor Show kicks off next month and Suzuki has just released two teaser photos of its new S-Cross concept that will debut at the show. It's expected that the S-Cross concept will be a near-production concept of a new Suzuki crossover.
Suzuki hasn't released any other details about the concept other than a statement about its design. "Suzuki's crossover concept S-Cross embodies an "Emotion x Quality x Aerodynamics" design theme, which is typified by distinctive dynamic lines that start on the front bumper, sweep across the doors, and continue to the rear of the body. Design elements which suggest stability and solidity also help create a cutting-edge crossover look."
Next week, Chrysler will reportedly end production of the Jeep Liberty SUV after 11 years and two model changes. Chrysler will replace the Liberty with a yet to be named new SUV early next year, that will share its platform with the Dodge Dart.
Chrysler hasn't released a lot of details about the jeep Liberty's successor, but it's expected to be powered by a 3.2L V6 mated to a new nine-speed automatic.
Audi is sending off the 2012 R8 with the release of a special batch of 2012 R8 models created exclusively for the U.S. market. The 2012 Audi R8 Exclusive Selection Editions build on the R8 V8 and R8 V10 Coupes and will arrive in limited volume later this month. Only twenty 2012 Exclusive Selection Edition R8 V8 vehicles and thirty 2012 Exclusive Selection Edition R8 V10 vehicles will be produced.
For the first time, Audi debuts a Daytona Gray matte exterior for the 2012 Exclusive Selection Edition R8 V8. The 2012 Exclusive Selection Edition R8 V8 also gets a carbon fiber exterior splitter and diffuser, 19" titanium five-arm double spoke wheels, black grille surround, black exhaust finishers, R8 GT tail lamps, and red brake calipers. Inside, the R8 V8 features an exclusive leather package with Crimson Red elements and contrast stitching, exclusive leather Navigation surround, and a thicker steering wheel. The 2012 Exclusive Selection Edition R8 V8 is equipped with a 4.2-liter FSI V8 which generates 430 hp at 7,900 rpm, with 316 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 - 6,000 rpm.
SRT Motorsports announced today that Dodge will withdraw from NASCAR competition at the conclusion of the 2012 season. Dodge has recorded 215 wins in the Sprint Cup Series, including 55 since 2001, and has been represented in the NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup seven of the eight seasons.
"We've spent an intense five months working to identify and evaluate all options for our future involvement in NASCAR," Gilles said. "A number of opportunities emerged, and our team worked diligently to put a structure together to fit our overall business and competitive objectives. While we have been pleased and enthused with the amount of interest from teams and sponsors over that time, in the end, we simply couldn't develop the right structure."
GM has announced that the 2013 Buick Verano Turbo will be priced at $29,990. The turbocharged Verano is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder engine 250 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. The Verano Turbo reaches 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds and is rated at 20/31 mpg with a six-speed manual transmission. Buyers can also choose a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Verano Turbo also gets a dual exhaust, sport pedals and rear spoiler, IntelliLink connectivity, a Bose 9-speaker audio system, leather seats, push-button start, rear park assist and rearview camera, blind zone alert and rear cross-traffic alert, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
The all-new Accord's styling is more expressive than the outgoing generation. From the front the face is an evolution of the last Accord, but a new grille gives the Accord a more powerful look. A new side character line that flows through the door handles and flares upward toward the rear of the Accord also gives it a sense of motion. The 2013 Accord also gets LED daytime running lights, headlights and taillights.
In addition to the announcement about the 2013 Ford C-MAX Energi's EV mode, Ford has also announced that the non plug-in version, the C-MAX hybrid is rated at 47 mpg. The 2013 C-MAX hybrid is EPA-certified at 47 mpg city, 47 mpg highway and 47 mpg combined, which beats the Toyota Prius v by up to 7 mpg.
The certification is significant because it makes C-MAX Hybrid the first hybrid vehicle to offer 47 mpg across the board. "The all-new C-MAX Hybrid is a great symbol of how Ford has transformed into a fuel-economy and technology leader with 47 mpg across the board and a highway rating 7 mpg better than Toyota Prius v," said Ford Vice President of Powertrain Engineering Joe Bakaj. "We've done this with innovation - represented by nearly 500 hybrid patents - while driving costs down 30 percent so we can bring these fuel-saving vehicles to more customers."
Since the Hyundai Veloster was released last year, critics have loved the Veloster's distinct styling and the quirky rear passenger-side only door. The 2013 Ford C-MAX Energi plug-In hybrid is slated to arrive this fall. Ford has just announced that the C-MAX Energi has the industry's top electric-only speed among all plug-in hybrid vehicles at 85 mph, which is 20 mph higher than the Prius plug-In hybrid.
"We understand customers place a high value on the zero-emission electrified driving experience," said Ford Vice President of Powertrain Engineering Joe Bakaj. "This inspired our engineering team to equip the C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid with a button that enables drivers to choose an electric-only driving mode."
Hyundai has released the pricing details for the all-new 2013 Santa Fe Sport, which arrives this fall. The five-passenger 2013 Santa Fe Sport starts at $24,450, plus the additional $825 for destination fees. That represents about a thousand dollar premium over the outgoing 2012 model.
For 2013 Hyundai is offering two versions of the Santa Fe, the Santa Fe Sport is the five-passenger version, while the Santa Fe has room for up to seven-passengers. Santa Fe Sport buyers have the choice of a 190-hp 2.4-liter engine or a turbocharged 264-hp 2.0-liter GDI engine. Hyundai estimates that the Santa Fe Sport 2.4 has an economy rating of 23 city and 33 highway.
Nissan has unveiled the Nissan NV200 London Taxi, which is Nissan's take on a future London "Black Cab." According to Nissan, the NV200 London Taxi will offer significantly reduced CO2 outputs compared to current taxi models - a focus in line with the Mayor Boris Johnson's Air Quality strategy for London.
The Nissan NV200 London Taxi is based on Nissan's NV200 compact van. The taxi version was designed from the inside out for the well-being of passengers, drivers and even other road users, the NV200 London Taxi is more efficient and more environmentally considerate than current 'black cab' models, while delivering more comfort, space and convenience for occupants. A particular focus was also placed on providing for passengers with mobility issues.
It's been twenty years since BMW first announced plans to build its first North American assembly plant, in Spartanburg, South Carolina and now BMW is looking at adding a second one in Mexico.
According to BMW sources, BMW is considering up to four Mexican locations for a new site to build the 3 Series sedan, with the state of Queretaro in north central Mexico as the leading contender. BMW is currently negotiating with local governments for incentives or tax breaks. Once the plan is finalized next year, production would begin in late 2016 or early 2017.
Nissan has officially unveiled the all-new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder, which looks identical to the concept version that Nissan showed off earlier this year. The new Pathfinder switches to a new unibody platform that it shares with the Infiniti JX crossover, which makes it lighter and more fuel-efficient than before.
According to Nissan, the all-new vehicle design sheds 500 pounds of mass compared to the outgoing model and gets up to 26 miles per gallon on the highway. The 2013 Pathfinder's fuel economy has improved more than 30 percent over that of the 2012 Pathfinder. Even though the Pathfinder has ditched its body-on-frame design, the new Pathfinder can still tow up to 5000 pounds.

The 2014 918 Spyder is nearly identical to the concept version, which is a good thing. The 918 Spyder will be powered by a 4.6L V8 and two electric motors for a total output over 770 horsepower. It should reach 0-60 mph in about three seconds with a top speed over 200 mph. Porsche also estimates that it will be rated at 78 mpg.
Today Ford has announced the launch of its new HF35 transmission that will be used by its front-wheel-drive hybrid models. The new transmission also makes Ford the only producer of front-wheel-drive hybrid transmissions in North America.
Ford's Van Dyke Transmission Plant will add hybrid transmission capacity thanks to a new, flexible assembly line that will build the transmissions for the Ford C-MAX Hybrid, C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid, Fusion Hybrid, Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid and Lincoln MKZ Hybrid.
Mazda just kicked off production of the all-new 2014 Mazda6 in Japan. The first vehicle to come off the line was a Mazda6 wagon built to European specifications and powered by the SKYACTIV-G 2.0 gasoline engine.

This fall Chevy's 2013 Camaro ZL1 convertible will go head to head with Ford's Shelby GT500 convertible. Chevy has announced that the drop top version of the Camaro ZL1 will start at $60,445, which is just over $5k more than the ZL1 coupe, but nearly identical to the price of the 2013 Ford GT500 convertible at $59,995.
The 2013 Chevy Camaro ZL1 is powered by the same 580 horsepower 6.2L V8 as the coupe.
Toyota has confirmed that a new Toyota Corolla will arrive next year and according to Toyota, it's going to be a big change from the current model. Bill Fay, general manager for the Toyota and Scion brands in the U.S. recently told WardsAuto that some people within Toyota feel that the change is even bigger than the Avalon's recent "metamorphosis." The 2013 Toyota Avalon has ditched its previously boxy styling for a "sexy" coupe-like design.
The Corolla hasn't had a redesign since the end of 2007, when Toyota launched a new Corolla that wasn't a huge departure from the one before it. Since it's last redesign, Ford, Chevy and Hyundai have all released new compact sedans that beat the Corolla in terms of style and content. Either way, the Corolla has still managed to hold its ground by continuing to land in the "top-selling" list month after month.

Jeep has announced two special-edition versions of its high-performance 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, the bright white "Alpine" edition and brilliant black "Vapor" edition. Both models feature the addition of Black Vapor Chrome finish to the standard split 5-spoke, 20 inch wheels along with unique gloss black exterior appointments including: Jeep hood badge, Grand Cherokee door badge, front grille surround and inserts, and the rear light bar and step pad.
The 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is powered by a 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 that delivers 470 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. According to Jeep, the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 runs from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds, 0-100-0 mph in the mid-16 second range, can cover the quarter mile in the mid-13 second range, has a top speed of 160 mph, and brakes from 60-0 mph in 116 feet.
