Volkswagen has announced the launch of its new “We Share” EV car sharing service that will launch in Berlin. The program kicks off in the second quarter of 2019 and will give users access to a fleet of 1,500 e-Golf electric cars, with the e-up! being added in 2020.

Volkswagen’s “We Share” will not be isolated to only Berlin, since VW has confirmed that it will expand it to other core European markets and selected cities in North America from 2020. VW plans to launch it in cities that have a population of over one million.

Jürgen Stackmann, Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Sales, stated, “We want to motivate young, urban users to engage with e-mobility. The people of Berlin will be the first to enjoy the electrifying experience of our ’We Share’ car sharing offering.”

Eventually VW’s new I.D. family of electric vehicles will also be added to the lineup of vehicles available in the new car sharing service. “We are democratizing e-mobility. From 2020, ’We Share’ is to support the market introduction of the new generation of our new, all-electric I.D. models and thus make a significant contribution to the Volkswagen brand’s e-mobility offensive,” Stackmann added.
