Volkswagen has revealed the Sport Coupe Concept GTE at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, which is a sleek four-door coupe that previews a new model that could take the brand further upmarket. You’ll recall that VW already offers the CC four-door coupe, but VW says that the Sport Coupe Concept GTE could lead to another four-door coupe that is positioned higher in the VW lineup.

The Sport Coupe Concept GTE is based on VW’s MQB platform and previews the brand’s future design language. At 191 inches long, the Sport Coupe Concept GTE is about the same size as the current CC, but a fastback roofline conceals a more versatile hatchback layout.

Inside there’s room for four passengers and a large 12.3-inch display takes the place of a traditional gauge cluster. VW says that the display was designed in such a way that the virtual space blends into the real border of the instrument cluster, via a patented ambient light effect, thus creating a free-form surface. A 10.1-inch touch screen in the center stack gives the driver and front passenger access to the infotainment system, while rear seat occupants will like the twin 10.1-inch displays that are located in the back of the front seats.

The Sport Coupe Concept GTE is powered by a plug-in hybrid system that consists of a turbocharged 3.0L v6 and two electric motors. One electric motor powers the rear wheels, while the V6 and a second electric motor power the front wheels. The hybrid system generates a total 374 horsepower and can travel up to 32 miles in EV mode.
