VW May Build the Tiguan in North America

In an effort to lower costs and make it more competitive, VW wants to build the Tiguan crossover in North America. VW already builds the Jetta and the 2012 Passat in North America. WirtschaftsWoche magazine is reporting that a proposal for the Tiguan is soon going to be decided by the board.

Currently the Tiguan is built Volkswagen’s Wolfsburg plant in North Germany. VW recently celebrated the opening of its $1 billion U.S assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It’s unclear if the Tiguan would be produced at that plant or the plant in Mexico that build the Jetta.
