VW has unveiled the Cross Coupe concept at the Tokyo Motor Show. According to VW the Cross Coupe concept SUV is an all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid that is a preview of the future.

The Cross Coupe concept is based on VW’s new modular transverse matrix (MQB) platform. The four-seater SUV is powered by two electric motors (one at each axle) and a direct-injection turbocharged gasoline engine. The electric motors and turbocharged engine have a combined output of 262 horsepower. The Cross Coupe concept can travel up to 25 miles alone on electric power and reach 0-62 mph in 7.0 seconds.

The Cross Coupe concept is longer than the current VW Golf, but shorter than the Tiguan.
