Volvo has unveiled the S90 Ambience concept, which is debuting this week at the Beijing Motor Show. Designed as the ultimate car to be chauffeured in, the S90 Ambience concept is all about making the rear seat passengers as comfortable as possible.

The Volvo S90 Ambience concept has room for just three passengers, with the front passenger seat and middle rear seat being removed to make more room for the two rear passengers. Beyond just the extra space, the passengers in the S90 Ambience concept can personalize the car’s atmosphere by using a smartphone app to choose one of seven visual themes synchronized with audio and scent.

At the push of a button, the ceiling can transform to a selected theme based on the passenger’s mood – including Northern Lights, Scandinavian Forest, Swan Lake, Archipelago and Rain. There is also a Nocturnal theme for resting and Freedom gives a boost of fresh and uplifting energy.

“The Ambience Concept redefines luxury by taking it beyond material choices, creating a car that connects with your senses,” said Robin Page, head of design at Volvo Cars. “The design explores how people feel inside the car and enables them to influence their own mood and well-being.”

Volvo has no production plans for the S90 Ambience concept, but it does hope to put some of the features from the concept in the S90 Excellence model in the near future.
