Volkswagen has just expanded its SUV lineup, in the US, with the reveal of the 2020 Atlas Cross Sport. The five-seater midsize Atlas Cross Sport will slot in between the Tiguan and Atlas in the brand’s lineup.

Compared to the seven-seater Atlas, the 2020 Atlas Cross Sport is 2.8-inches short and 2.3-inches lower, but it rides on the same 117.3-inch wheelbase. The Atlas Cross Sport stands out from the larger Atlas, thanks to its sleeker profile with its steeply raked rear pillar and rear hatch. At the front the Atlas Cross Sport looks more upscale with its three-bar chrome grille and more sculpted hood.

Inside the Atlas Cross Sport has a different steering wheel than the Atlas and also features several luxury options, like heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, rear sunshades, and the Fender Premium Audio System with 12 speakers. The Volkswagen Digital Cockpit configurable instrument display, wireless charging, and the Volkswagen Car-Net with its 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot are also available.

The Atlas Cross Sport offers plenty of cargo space 40.3 cu ft of space behind the second-row seats and 77.8 cu ft with the second row folded.

The 2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport will be offered with a choice of two engine options: a 276-hp 3.6L V6 or a 235-hp 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is optional. If towing is your thing, the V6 can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

The 2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport will arrive in the spring.
