Toyota is bringing old-school style and modern performance together with the debut of the Turbo Trail Cruiser, a one-off build unveiled at the 2025 SEMA Show. This project takes the rugged charm of the classic Land Cruiser FJ60 and injects it with the power and technology of today’s Toyota lineup — specifically, the i-FORCE 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 found in the Toyota Tundra.

The goal behind the Turbo Trail Cruiser is simple: show how Toyota’s current engineering can breathe new life into one of its most beloved icons. The result is part restomod, part performance showcase — and entirely Toyota.

Under the hood, the i-FORCE twin-turbo V6 produces 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, nearly doubling the output of the original FJ60’s inline-six. The new engine doesn’t just add muscle — it also delivers smoother operation, improved efficiency, and reduced emissions. With twin turbos providing instant boost and a broad torque curve, the updated Land Cruiser feels more refined and responsive than ever while retaining its unmistakable character.

Unlike many high-profile restomods, the Turbo Trail Cruiser was designed to look as if it rolled off the production line that way. The Toyota Motorsports Garage team engineered the swap so that no major cutting or structural modifications were needed. Custom motor mounts, an adapter plate to mate the modern engine to the FJ60’s five-speed transmission, and a redesigned oil pan were all developed to integrate seamlessly with the original chassis. A custom exhaust and updated cooling system were added, while a new wiring harness connects everything to Toyota’s factory-grade engine management system.

The FJ60’s timeless look remains intact, highlighted by a period-correct paint job in Toyota’s 1986 Silver 147 with retro graphics. A mild 1.5-inch lift, 35-inch tires, and a front shackle reversal give it a more capable stance without straying too far from its roots. Inside, a discreet JBL audio system adds modern sound while keeping the vintage cabin’s look and feel intact — making the Turbo Trail Cruiser look like a survivor that’s been perfectly preserved and subtly upgraded.
