Now that the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid is set to arrive this spring, what does that mean for the current Prius lineup? Well Toyota has confirmed that the Corolla Hybrid will essentially replace the small Prius C in its hybrid lineup.
Toyota confirmed the pending death of the Prius C to Motor1, “You’re probably not going to see Prius C for long,” Ed Laukes, Group VP of Toyota Marketing revealed. “The Prius C has served its purpose well.”
The Prius C debuted for the 2012 model year as a smaller alternative to the regular Prius Liftback, but the Corolla Hybrid is now more efficient than the Prius C. The 2019 Prius C is rated at 48 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the highway, while the 2020 Corolla Hybrid is rated at 53 mpg in the city and 52 mph on the highway.
While Toyota says that the Corolla Hybrid will essentially replace the Prius C, we don’t know yet what the price difference will be between the two. The Prius V died after the 2017 model year and now the Prius C will soon be discontinued, the Prius Liftback will be the only Prius left from the former Prius family.
