This week Toyota unveiled the 2020 Toyota Avalon and Camry TRD sedans, but it doesn’t plan to stop there. Toyota is reportedly looking to expand its Toyota Racing Development brand across its lineup, which might even include a sportier Corolla TRD.

Toyota says that both TRD versions of the Avalon and Camry have been turned for the track thanks to some aerodynamic enhancements, better brakes and some suspension modifications. Speaking to AutoGuide, Jack Hollis, Group Vice President and General Manager of Toyota Division at Toyota Motor North America revealed that Toyota will soon add more sporty TRD models to its lineup.

“I love the TRD brand, I love what Toyota Racing Development does, and I like learning from our motorsports teams and putting it into our cars,” Hollis stated. “And if we can bring it to every car and SUV and every truck, I think we should.”

A Corolla TRD is likely already on the table, since it would be a good rival to the Honda Civic Si, but we’ll have to wait and see what other Toyota models soon get the TRD treatment.

In addition to releasing more sporty TRD models, Toyota is also looking to add all-wheel drive to more of its models. This week the 2019 Prius debuted with all-wheel drive and its likely that the Camry and maybe even the Avalon and Corolla could soon offer it. While the CH-R won’t offer all-wheel drive anytime soon, other models might. “We’re looking at the all-wheel-drive application for all of our products. Not necessarily on C-HR today, but you have to stay tuned because some new things are coming up.”

Given the fact that the 2019 Nissan Altima and Mazda3 both offer all-wheel drive, it makes sense that Toyota looks at adding it to its vehicles as well.
