Yesterday Ford announced that it’s abandoning the car segment, but that doesn’t mean that every automaker is giving up. Toyota is set to invest $170 million to build the next-generation Toyota Corolla at its plant in Mississippi.

The 12th generation Toyota Corolla will switch to Toyota’s new TNGA platform, which is shared by several new models, including the 2019 Avalon. The $170 million investment in the Mississippi assembly plant will include a complete replacement of the current production lines, which will help the plant build cars more efficiently. The investment will also create 400 new jobs.

“We will be able to respond quicker and be more flexible in order to meet market demands down the road,” said Toyota Mississippi President Sean Suggs. “I’m very proud of our team members and the partnerships we have developed across the state.”

Toyota is getting ready for the launch of the 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback, but Toyota has not announced when the next-generation Corolla sedan will debut.
