Is Toyota thinking about introducing a crossover-like version of the Toyota Corolla hatchback? Toyota hasn’t announced anything, but it did recently trademark the “Corolla Cross” name with the European Intellectual Property Organization.
The Toyota Corolla Cross could be Toyota’s answer to a growing number of off-road hatchbacks, like the Subaru Crosstrek and 2020 Ford Focus Active. With hatchbacks growing in popularity, the off-road focused hatchbacks skate a line between buyers that want the size of a small hatchback, but also want some of the off-road capability that a crossover provides.
We’ll have to wait and see if the Toyota Corolla Cross is going to become a reality, but if it does, expect it to get a slightly raised suspension, plastic body cladding and meatier ties.
