Tesla has already confirmed plans for an electric semi truck and now it’s being reported that Tesla is getting ready to start testing the truck in Nevada. The electric semi is also capable of driving by itself and in platoons where it will automatically follow a truck in front of it. Tesla is now getting closer to testing a working prototype.

Reuters reportedly found an email that contained a discussion between Tesla and the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles where the discussion focused on testing the semi in the state. Part of the email from Tesla regulatory official Nasser Zamani stated:

“To insure we are on the same page, our primary goal is the ability to operate our prototype test trucks in a continuous manner across the state line and within the States of Nevada and California in a platooning and/or Autonomous mode without having a person in the vehicle.”

In addition to testing the electric semi truck in Nevada, Tesla may also start testing it in California, since Tesla already had talks with California officials about the autonomous trucks.

Last year Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed Tesla’s plans for an electric autonomous truck, which is part of his Master Plan Part Deux. A few months ago, Musk followed up the announcement with a teaser of the new semi truck, which is going to debut in September.
