Back in July it was reported that Tesla planned to phase out the base rear-wheel drive Model S 75. Now Tesla has confirmed that the Model S 75 will be discontinued on Sunday, September 24.

This means that going forward all Model S sedans will feature all-wheel drive and the only versions you can get it in will be the 75D, 100D, and P100D. This also means that the starting price for the Model S will now be $74,500, up from $69,500 for the rear-wheel drive Model S 75.

The move to discontinue the base Model S isn’t that surprising, since Tesla needs to make room in its lineup for the Model 3. The only buyers that will be left out in the cold were those that were possibly looking at the base Model S instead of waiting for the Model 3 to arrive.
