Tesla has reached its lofty goal of producing 5,000 Tesla Model 3 electric cars in a week. Elon Musk confirmed Tesla hit its target in the last week, with the 5,000th Model 3 completing its quality checks early this morning.

Elon Musk alerted the Tesla team of the milestone in an email where he also stated that Tesla hopes to produce 6,000 Model 3 electric cars a week at some point next month. “I think we just became a real car company,” Musk stated.

Elon Musk also hit its production goal of producing 2,000 Model S and Model X vehicles in a week, which brings the total vehicles produced in the last week to 7,000.

Tesla recently opened the gates so that every person that’s placed a reservation for the Model 3 can now order it. To order the Model 3, each reservation holder will have to submit a $2,500 deposit. While Tesla has reached its goal of being able to produce 5,000 Model 3 sedans a week, it still has not started producing the cheaper $35,000 Model 3. Production of the cheaper Model 3 is expected to begin by the end of the year.
