Rolls-Royce has confirmed that it’s upcoming SUV will be called the Cullinan. Up until now the prototypes of the SUV were called Project Cullinan, which started rumors that the final product would use a different name.

“The name Cullinan has been hiding in plain sight since we revealed it as the project name some years ago,” comments Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce. “It is the most fitting name for our extraordinary new product. Cullinan is a motor car of such clarity of purpose, such flawless quality and preciousness, and such presence that it recalibrates the scale and possibility of true luxury.”

The Cullinan name is borrowed from the largest diamond ever found, which was discovered in South Africa. Rolls-Royce is trying to stay away from calling the Cullinan an actual SUV and is instead calling it a “high-bodied vehicle.” The Cullinan is the second Rolls-Royce to be based on its all-new proprietary aluminum spaceframe ‘Architecture of Luxury’.

Rolls-Royce has not announced when it will officially reveal the Cullinan, although there is a report that it will reveal it to at a few small events this summer.
