We’ve known for a while that Nissan is working on a new electric SUV and now it’s unveiled the Ariya concept, which is a preview of its future electric compact SUV. The Nissan Ariya concept is close to the production version, which could arrive as soon as next year as a 2021 model.

The Ariya concept borrows some stying cues from the IMX concept that debuted at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, but with production ready door handles and mirrors. Nissan says that the Ariya concept signals the arrival of a new design language for Nissan with smoother lines and a sleeker grille. The Ariya has about the same size footprint as the Rogue, although it’s lower and wider.

The Ariya is based on a new dedicated electric platform with dual electric motors, one in the front and one in the rear. Nissan hasn’t announced any specifics about the powertrain, but it is rumored that the production version will have a driving range around 300 miles.

Nissan has already registered the Ariya name in the US and has reportedly already showed off the production version to dealers, so it shouldn’t be too long until it arrives in the US.
