Nissan has big product plans in the pipeline, with a new report from Automotive News revealing that the automaker will launch 20 new or updated models between now and spring 2027. The news came out of Nissan’s national dealer meeting on August 20 in Las Vegas, where the company also dropped a major hint about the long-awaited return of the Nissan Xterra SUV.
According to dealers who attended the meeting, the Xterra is scheduled to arrive in 2028. While Nissan didn’t release any official specs, sources suggest the new Xterra will ride on a body-on-frame platform that’s expected to be shared with the Frontier pickup, Pathfinder, and Infiniti QX60.
Powertrain details are still under wraps, but early reports indicate the next-gen Xterra will be offered with a V6 hybrid setup, with a possible range-extender powertrain also in the works. If true, that would give Nissan’s rugged SUV a modern edge while still keeping the off-road credibility that made the original Xterra a fan favorite.
