With the upcoming re-introduction of the Ford Ranger to the U.S. market and the recent success of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, we’ve been wondering what Nissan is going to do with the Frontier. Nissan has now confirmed that it is working on the next-generation Nissan Frontier for the U.S. market.

The current Frontier has been on the market for over a decade, although Nissan does offer a newer pickup in other markets that’s sold as the Navara. There’s a chance that Nissan could simply introduce a version of the Navara in the U.S. as the next Frontier. Nissan also recently spun off a version of the Navara with Mercedes-Benz – the Mercedes-Benz X-Class.

The next-generation Frontier will be built at Nissan’s plant in Mississippi, but Nissan has not announced exactly when the it will be released. Hopefully it won’t be too long, since the current Frontier is facing some stiff competition from Honda, GM, Ford and Toyota. Even Hyundai is working on a new small pickup.
