Nissan is pulling the plug on the Ariya EV. According to a report from Automotive News, production of the Ariya will end in early 2026 as the automaker shifts its attention to the next-generation 2026 Nissan Leaf. That means there will be no 2026 Ariya available in the U.S. market.

One of the biggest reasons behind the decision is tariffs on Japanese-made vehicles. The Ariya is built at Nissan’s Tochigi plant in Japan, which makes it more expensive to sell in the U.S. On top of that, the overall slowdown in EV demand is making it harder for the Ariya to compete. Things are expected to get even tougher with the expiration of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit on September 30, 2025.

Sales have also been a challenge for the Ariya. Since its arrival, it has struggled to gain traction against rivals like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Hyundai Ioniq 5, both of which have become far more popular choices for EV buyers.

While the Ariya’s time is coming to an end, Nissan isn’t walking away from EVs. The spotlight will now shift to the redesigned 2026 Leaf, which will play a crucial role in Nissan’s electric future.
