Jaguar has already revealed its electric ambitions by giving everyone of its models an electrified powertrain by 2020. Now we’re hearing how that decision could change the flagship XJ sedan. According to a recent report, the next-generation Jaguar XJ will become a fully electric sedan, that will compete with the Model S.

Autocar is reporting that the next XJ will officially become an electric car when it goes on sale sometime in 2019. The electric powertrain will not be the only change, since the next XJ will ditch the traditional three box sedan body style, for a sleeker hatchback look, like the Model S and Porsche Panamera.

Another interesting part of the report also claims that a second model is being developed alongside the new XJ, which will be sold as a Range Rover. Internally the more car-like Range Rover is currently called the “Road Rover.”

Under the skin, the new XJ will be powered by twin electric motors that send the power to all four wheels. A driving range over 300 miles is also suspected. If the latest report is accurate, we’ll see the new XJ debut at the end of this year.
