Earlier this year it was reported that VW was thinking about expanding its current SUV lineup with a three-row crossover, now according to the guys over at Car and Driver, the plans are on.
VW’s competitor to the Honda Pilot and Ford Explorer will most likely be built at VW’s Chattanooga, Tennessee plant and share its platform with the VW Passat. It will also most likely have VW’s 3.6L V6 as its standard engine, with a 3.0L diesel V6 being optional. The three-row SUV will also be cheaper than the VW Touareg, which starts at $42,975. Expect it to start somewhere around $30,000. The arrival of the three-row crossover could also be the end of the Chrysler based Routan minivan.
Car and Driver also reports that the next VW Tiguan will be more oriented toward American car buyers. The next one will be more like the Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue.
