The Concept Active Tourer picks up where the i3 concept left off. Its overall shape and footprint is similar to that of the i3 concept, but its styling is more in line with other BMW models like the 3 and 5 Series models.

The Concept Active Tourer is powered by BMW’s’ new eDrive plug-in hybrid system. Its 1.5L three-cylinder engine is mated to an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. The 1.5L engine powers the front wheels, while the electric motor powers the rear wheels. The total system puts out over 190 horsepower and can accelerate the concept from 0-62 mph in under eight seconds. BMW estimates that the system can drive up to 20 miles in full electric mode. The average fuel consumption is less than 2.5 litres per 100 kilometers on the European cycle.

The interior of the Concept Active Tourer is full of new technology, like the “Cool Shade” panorama roof that has the ability to change the level of light and temperature at the press of a button. The traditional instrument panel has been swapped out for a new 10.25-inch integrated screen with Black Panel Technology.

Stay tuned for more details when the concept is unveiled later this month at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
