As the name suggests, the new MINI electric car will be based on the three-door Cooper. It’s performance is expected to be on par with the Cooper S, which is why MINI has reportedly picked the Cooper S E name. According to Autocar, the MINI Cooper S E will be powered by the same 181-hp electric motor that powers the BMW i3 S, which is nearly the same output as the Cooper S.

Even with the extra weight from the lithium-ion battery pack, the Cooper S E’s performance is expected to be similar to the Cooper S, thanks to the instantaneous torque from the electric motor and lack of gears.

Sources also claim that the MINI Cooper S E will have a driving range around 200 miles. Pricing for the MINI Cooper S E is expected to begin around £30,000 ($38,175 US).
